From the recording Born on A Monday

Like many songs, the core idea of this is somewhat autobiographical but, like many songs, it took on a character and life of its own that isn't about me at all. I used the title, being an opportunity, to help explain what I thought was going on here.
I think this was one of the first things I wrote that was truly for me to do and not for Hard Rain.

Lyrics

When the weather gets rough, I hear the warning
It's waking me up, like the thunder in the morning
And what I fear at the moment I beg you to stay
Is I won't hear you say you love me
Say you love me, say you love me
Say you love me, say you love me, say you love me

For every reward, there is an empty broken promise
And wherever you are
You're still descending down upon us
And what I see is nothing more than a dangerous display
I don't believe you're coming to say
You love me, say you love me, say you love me
Why won't you say you love me
Say you love me, say you love me

Say you love me
Say anything you want
Cause you don't mean it anyway
Even if you let something slip
You don't mean a word you say
Except"grow up boy, and button your lip"
Then act as if you're a million miles away
Say you love me, say you love me, say you love me
A million miles away
Say you love me, say you love me, say you love me

I've made my mistakes
I've made my own peace
I've made my own way
But what's out of my hands
Is I can't make you say
You love me, say you love me, say you love me

Say you love me, say you love me, say you love me
Say you love me
Say you love me
Why won't you say

You love me, say you love me, say you love me
Say you love me
Say you love me
Yeah

Say you love me
