From the recording After All This Time

Bring the Noise (music by Akers, circa 2000) – Public Enemy has always been my favor-ite rap act. I came up with this arrangement as somewhat of a joke (lounge versions of rock songs were a thing in the late 90s), but I have always liked the melody and think it really works as a contrast to the killer lyrics. I always figured if Chuck D ever heard it, he would either hug me or punch me in the throat…or both.

Lyrics

Bring the Noise
Bass! How low can you go?
Death row, what a brother knows
Once again, back is the incredible, The rhyme animal
The uncannibal D, Public Enemy Number One
Five-O said, "Freeze!" and I got numb
Can I tell 'em that I never really had a gun?
it's just the wax that the Terminator X spun
Now they got me in a cell cause my records, they sell
Cause a brother like D said, Well…
Farrakhan's a prophet that he thinks
you ought to listen to, what he would say to you is
“follow for now"
“Power!” the people say
Make a miracle, D, def the lyrical
Black is back, all in, we're gonna win
Check it out, yeah y'all come on, here we go again
Turn it up Bring the noise Turn it up
Never badder than bad
‘cause a brother is madder than mad
At the fact it's corrupt like a senator
Soul on a roll; you treat it like soap on a rope
‘Cause our beats and our lines are so dope
All I can hear are my lessons inside music
When you tell me that you think we oughta be
brothers and sisters you don’t understand hell
they’re caught in a war all across the country
We got to demonstrate, come on now,
they're gonna have to wait
‘Til we get it right
Radio stations I question their blackness
They call themselves black,
we'll see if they'll play this
turn it up…
